The origin of Valdelosfrailes as a winery goes back to the winemaking tradition of Carlos Moro's family, whose ancestors cultivated vineyards, had wineries and made wine in the areas of Cubillas de Santa Marta and Valoria la Buena.

ELEGANT, FRUITY, BALANCED AND MINERAL WINES | D.O. CIGALES

In 1997, this winemaker and winegrower, who had already founded the Matarromera winery in the Ribera del Duero, decided to invest in the cultivation of vineyards in this area and the following year he built the building where he would produce magnificent red wines. It was really in 1999 when he expanded this project by undertaking an ambitious investment plan to include it in the Appellation of origin Cigales calling it Valdelosfrailes to refer to the origin of wine in the region, which dates back to the 12th century with the Cistercian monks of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Palazuelos, hence the name of the valley of the friars to produce elegant, fruity, balanced and mineral wines.

This marked the beginning of a revolution in the production of red wines from this area and the production of new red wines for ageing. Nowadays, this winery continues to produce quality wines with a careful elaboration and a limited production.
