VISIT BENTAYGA WINERY [GRAN CANARIA]
About 14 million years ago, in the first stage of eruptions that lasted 5 million years, the center of the island of Gran Canaria collapsed, giving rise to the impressive Caldera de Tejeda. This landscape, described by Miguel de Unamuno in 1910 as a "Petrified Tempest", is home to Bodegas Bentayga, named after the iconic monolith Roque Bentayga.
The winery, located near the highest vineyard on the island, has part of its facilities excavated in natural stone. In one of these caves is the aging room, where the red wines mature in new American, Hungarian and French oak barrels. With a production capacity of 55,000 liters, the winery rigorously controls the winemaking and bottling process on the property.
Founded by Don Juan Armas Rodríguez, Bodegas Bentayga is the result of his dream and love for the land of Tejeda. Inspired by his father, who made wine for his own consumption since 1942, Don Juan planted most of the vines in 1994, covering 11 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Tejeda and Artenara, between 1,050 and 1,318 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest vineyards in Spain.
