VISIT BODEGA CELLERS DE SCALA DEI [PRIORAT]

Cellers de Scala Dei occupies the former buildings of the Cartuja de Scala Dei, founded in 1194 on the initiative of King Alfonso II of Aragon. The Carthusian monks planted vineyards in the area and made their first wines in 1263. After the Mendizábal Confiscation and the abandonment of the monastery in 1835, five families acquired the land in 1844 and founded the Sociedad Agrícola La Unión, the origin of today's winery. In 1878 the first bottles of Priorat wine left this estate, earning a Gold Medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition. The winery was re-founded in 1974 and still ages part of its production in the 17th-century cellar, located in the former building of the Cartuja's procurator.

WINE TOURISM
Cellers de Scala Dei runs visits and tastings in Spanish, Catalan and English, with morning and afternoon time slots depending on the experience.

Introductory Visit
A tour of the winemaking and ageing areas, with particular attention to the 17th-century cellar, followed by a guided tasting of four wines.

Vineyard Visit and Tasting
A half-day tour of the historic vineyards of the Sierra del Montsant, with a stop and tasting at each estate visited. Includes a light breakfast, a tasting with views of the Cartuja and a lunch with local produce at the Masdeu vineyard, over 650 metres above sea level, plus a final visit to the winery.

Scala Dei Garnacha Tasting
A tasting of six wines made mainly from Garnacha Tinta, including whites, rosés and single-vineyard wines, focused on the winery's signature variety.

Full Tasting

Events, Groups and Exclusive Visits
The winery organises group visits and exclusive, tailor-made events, with capacity for up to 50 people. It has its own tasting room and sommeliers, and offers food pairings in collaboration with local restaurants.
