VISIT BODEGA MATARROMERA [RIBERA DEL DUERO]
Bodega Matarromera was founded in 1994 in the municipality of Valbuena de Duero, in the heart of Ribera del Duero's Milla de Oro, driven by agricultural engineer Carlos Moro. The project revived a family history rooted in the Olivares and Valbuena estates, where Moro's ancestors had already grown grapes and made wine. It was Carlos's own father, Ursicino Moro, who identified the Matarromera estate as the ideal site for the winery. In its first vintage, the eponymous wine was named best in the world at an international competition organized by the OIV and the International Union of Oenologists.
The facilities are partially built into the north slope of the Duero Valley, with direct views over the river. More than 160 hectares of limestone soils between Olivares and Valbuena de Duero support vineyards planted mainly with Tempranillo, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Over the years, Matarromera has expanded its facilities with new indoor and outdoor spaces —such as the Jardín Varietal, the Plaza de la Balconada and the Sala de los Insignes— and with five private, independent tasting rooms. The winery also holds a historic bottle cellar, one of the most complete vintage collections in the appellation.
