VISIT BODEGAS LAS ORCAS IN LAGUARDIA [RIOJA ALAVESA]
Bodegas Las Orcas is a small family winery located in the town of Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa.
Lucia Abando San Pedro belongs to the sixth generation of a family dedicated to the vineyard and winemaking. Recently incorporated to the family business, she arrives to stay and give a breath of fresh air to the winery.
In 1994, after the marriage of Cristina San Pedro Rández and Raimundo Abando, they jointly created Bodegas Las Orcas, with the great help and support of her parents, Javier and Cristina.
VINEYARDS AND WINE, THE KEY PROTAGONISTS
Laguardia, protected by la Sierra de Cantabria, is a place where vineyards and wine are the main protagonists. From the subway cellars that date back to medieval times to the most modern ones of the 21st century. A balance between tradition and modernity.
This is the balance that Cristina and Raimundo have sought from the beginning, and with the incorporation of their daughter Lucía they will continue to promote it.
Lucía has a degree in Agri-Food and Rural Environment Engineering from the Public University of Navarra. She has also completed a master's degree in Agronomic Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a master's degree in Innovative Oenology at the University of the Basque Country and the Public University of Navarra in collaboration with the University of Bordeaux.
TERROIR, TRADITION AND MODERNITY
Their philosophy is very clear, to show the essence of their vineyards in the wines, with innovative ideas but always respecting the good work and tradition that distinguishes their parents.
The Abando San Pedro family currently works with 10 hectares of its own vineyards and 12 controlled hectares, all of them in the town of Laguardia.
The opening of a new building for the winery implies the desire to unify the experience of Raimundo and Cristina, the knowledge and freshness of their daughter Lucía and the new technologies, to achieve wines with a unique personality that combine terroir, tradition and modernity.
