VISIT BODEGAS FORCADA WINERY [RIOJA]

 

We use organic production methods, based on respect for the environment and careful treatment of the vines, which are also located within the territory of the Biosphere Reserve. That is one of the reasons why for two decades the winery has not used chemical fertilizers, only manure fertilization. Neither do we use herbicides to eliminate weeds, and we use pheromones to combat the grape moth, and we are currently the only winery in Rioja to carry the Biosphere Reserve logo.

Bodegas Forcada owns 65 hectares of its own vineyards located in the Alcarama mountains, most of which are centuries old, although it controls another 70 hectares of family vineyards. Right now it is the fourth generation of vine cultivation. These vineyards are located at an average altitude of 700m, thus achieving a greater complexity of aromas and flavors in our fruit. In addition, we produce low yields of grapes per hectare, combining modern and traditional viticulture to contribute to a better quality product.

Around 1910 Marcos Forcada inherited from his father a few vineyards that survived the phylloxera and planted part of the vineyards that are still preserved today, he built the winery and began his winemaking career, with the passage of time this was deteriorating and being impossible to rehabilitate in 2001 David Forcada the fourth generation built the new facilities of Bodegas Forcada. This has modern facilities, which have the latest technological advances and the capacity to process up to one million kilograms of grapes and also an aging area with French and American oak barrels to provide an exclusive complexity to our wines. An extensive experience in the cultivation of vineyards and an adequate use of technological resources are the factors that lead to obtaining structured and elegant wines.

Thus Flor de Baco, Herencia de Baco, La Forcada and Alma de Forcada were born, with a careful dedication and trying to respond to the needs of a demanding market. All our wines are internationally awarded in international competitions such as Decanter, Sommelier Wine Awards, The Drinks Business, IWC ..... Highlighting in 2019 the recognition to our wine Alma de Forcada old vines which was declared THE BEST GARNACHA WINE OF THE WORLD BY THE PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION IWC International Wine Challenge.
