Bodegas Trenza

VISIT BODEGAS TRENZA [BENISSA, ALICANTE]

Bodegas Trenza is a family project led by Danish brothers David and Jonas Tofterup. David, who trained at wineries in Penedès, Bordeaux, Chile and California, was named Best Winemaker in Spain by the Unión Española de Catadores in 2016 and 2018 before focusing his work on Bodegas Trenza. Jonas, a Master of Wine, is the only Danish professional to hold this title and also heads the Iberian Wine Academy in Andalusia. Together with Jennifer Powell and a small team, they produce a collection of wines combining varieties and regions from across Spain.

Bodegas Trenza wines come from vineyards in Yecla, Ribera del Duero, Rías Baixas and Castilla-La Mancha, with varieties including Monastrell, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Garnacha, Bobal, Albariño, Chardonnay and Verdejo. Over 90% of the grapes come from organic farming and dry-farmed vineyards, including old-vine Monastrell in Yecla and century-old Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero. Wine tourism takes place at Bodegas Trenza Winery, set on Finca el Ferrandet in Benissa (Alicante), a restored property that retains a traditional riurau with views over the vineyards.
