Bodega Pirineos completes the 2022 harvest
BODEGA PIRINEOS ENDS ITS HARVEST WITH 3 MILLION KILOS OF HIGH QUALITY GRAPES
The magnificent adaptation of our soils to this year's climatology has resulted in a great concentration of color in the different grape varieties. The 2022 harvest campaign was ten days earlier than in 2021 due to weather conditions but has ended better than expected, with 3 million kilos.
According to Jesús Astrain, technical director of
Bodega Pirineos , this harvest campaign lasted about six weeks. "The entry of the different grapes was more consecutive than in previous years, with fewer pauses between the different grape varieties", he explains.
Bodega Pirineos' 2022 harvest campaign began with the picking of the main white grape varieties, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, and continued with Merlot followed by Tempranillo, Cabernet, Moristel, Parraleta, Garnacha, Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.
Jesús Astrain, the most experienced winemaker in the Somontano appellation (since 1988), indicates that: "The color ripeness of the grapes is perfect. We have not given the vines time to suffer more hydric stress". And he adds: "In general, we have very good feelings about the quality. It has been surprising how our dry-farmed vineyards have adapted to the weather we have experienced this year".
As the main novelty, this year
Bodega Pirineos has incorporated some Garnacha Blanca grapes, a variety that joins the rest of the grapes Pirineos works with.
