VISIT BODEGAS CASAJÚS [RIBERA DEL DUERO]
José Alberto Calvo Casajús, born in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos), founded Bodegas J.A. Calvo Casajús in 1993 together with his wife, Leonor. The Calvo and Casajús family has grown vines in the area for generations, where wine was once made by hand in old underground cellars for personal consumption. Today, Casajús combines these inherited methods with more modern winemaking techniques.
The winery farms 20 hectares of its own vineyards on sandy loam soils, sheltered from northerly winds by hills of pines and holm oaks. Most of the vines are Tinta del País (Tempranillo) over 70 years old, trained using the traditional goblet (vaso) pruning system. The microclimate of Quintana del Pidio, within the D.O. Ribera del Duero, combines cold winters with dry summers and marked day-night temperature contrasts, favoring slow grape ripening. Beneath the village lies a network of traditional cellars carved out in the 16th century, including Bodega La Iglesia, part of the family's history and now included in the visit.

Bodegas Casajús offers guided visits to the winery and its historic underground cellar, including a wine tasting. Visits are conducted in Spanish and English. A tailored option is also available for groups of more than 5 people, along with a space for private events.
