VISIT BODEGAS REGAJO WINERY [BADAJOZ]
The essence of the origin
Drinking from the tradition created in generations, in Bodegas Regajo we harmonize in our wines the elaboration followed since our origins in 1950, with the implementation of new techniques, always respecting the product that nature gives us. The land, of mud and slate, marks our identity.
Located in Fregenal de la Sierra, in the south of the province of Badajoz in Extremadura, between the region of Tierra de Barros and the Natural Park of Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche, in the north of the province of Huelva, we offer six wines with personality, with Macabeo, Pedro Ximénez, Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, after hand harvesting and table selection.
The work in the winery, with earthenware jars and French and American oak barrels, is the extension of the care we give to the terroir, the culmination of the full dedication on a daily basis, the search for the origin of each wine, linked to our family tradition.
Wines with identity
From freshness to warmth and sweetness. In the whites, the 'El Mellizo' vineyard marked the beginning of the winery and in our wine with the same name we make a 'coupage' with the Pedro Ximénez grape, with 50% raisin and the rest, the same grape, but fresh, just cut, therefore, twin grapes to which we add 10% Macabeo.
From the vineyard, the grapes arrived on the backs of donkeys to the winery located in the street 'El Compás', which gives its name to our semi-sweet Macabeo grape, without added carbon dioxide. The freshness of the wine.
And in the 'Calderero' plot, part of the Macabeo grapes are grown, which together with the Pedro Ximénez give body to intoxicate the senses in our dry white wine, fermented in earthenware jars.
The reds combine youth, long fermentation in earthenware jars and aging in oak barrels. From 'El barro y la pitarra', the origin, emblem of the 'terroir', with Tempranillo grapes, 80%, and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine with which the winery was born by Manuel and José Regajo, father and son, back in the early 1950s.
Until the 'Tinto Roble', with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, 80%, and Tempranillo, with six months in French oak barrels, mostly French, and American. Maturity in the winery.
And 'Nertóbriga', a wine reminiscent of the Celtiberian-Roman past of the area where the vineyards and the winery are located, in Fregenal de la Sierra, with an archaeological site, the result of the first human settlements in the region, and which offers a blend of 90% Garnacha and 10% Tempranillo, in a limited edition of one thousand bottles.
