VISIT MENCHACA WINES | EL MOLAR [MADRID]

Menchaca Wines is the personal wine project of Aitor Menchaca, launched in 2020 in collaboration with winemaker Juan Carlos Sancha. The winery is located in El Molar, north of Madrid, in the Jarama river valley, just 30 km from the city center. Its vineyards lie on granitic sandy soils in the El Molar subzone of DO Vinos de Madrid, with plots of old vines of Garnacha, Malvar, Tempranillo, and other native varieties planted in a triangular pattern on steep slopes.

The project was created with the aim of recovering century-old vineyards at risk of abandonment. It currently manages around 10 hectares, many under restoration. Winemaking involves manual harvesting, fermentation with native yeasts, and aging in French oak barrels. The wines are parcel-based, limited-production, and tied to individually named vineyards.

WINE TOURISM

Menchaca Wines offers three different routes to discover the project, its vineyards, and the recovery process of historic plots with native grape varieties. Visits start from the winery, with three available slots: 11:00. It is recommended to arrive with a 4x4 or SUV vehicle. Horseback and cycling routes are planned for the upcoming season.

Centenary Wine Route & Tapas
Guided tour through vineyard plots explaining the recovery process and traditional winemaking in El Molar. A sensory journey ending with a wine tasting and a selection of Iberian products and cheeses in a Wine Tasting Lounge with views of the Sierra Norte or Madrid skyline.

Wine Flight Route
Optional add-on: 30-minute introductory flight over the vineyards of El Molar and the Sierra Norte of Madrid from Aeródromo Loring, one of Spain’s oldest ultralight airfields.
