On August 12, 2026, Spain will experience the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in 121 years. The path of totality enters from the northwest of the Peninsula, crosses Galicia, Castilla y León, La Rioja and the Basque Country, and exits toward the Mediterranean. The Moon will fully cover the solar disc for just over a minute, with the peak expected around 8:28 PM in the area of longest duration.
The coincidence with the peak of the Perseids turns the night of August 12 into one of the most unusual double astronomical events of the century. Twelve wineries across five autonomous communities have designed specific wine tourism proposals to experience the eclipse from the vineyard, with tasting, dinner, live music and guided observation. Prices from €50 to €405 per person.
The path of totality of the 2026 solar eclipse crosses Castilla y León from southwest to northeast, placing the Rueda and Ribera del Duero appellations right in the path of the phenomenon. In this area, the eclipse will reach its peak around 8:30 PM on August 12, with the Moon fully covering the solar disc for approximately 1 minute and 40 seconds at the points of longest totality. Five wineries in the region have prepared proposals with prices ranging from €50 to €405, with programs including everything from biodynamic tastings to Michelin-starred dinners.

More infoLa Rioja sits in the central stretch of the path of totality of the 2026 solar eclipse. The typically clear August skies, the low light pollution outside urban centers, and the vineyards open onto the Ebro valley make it one of the most favorable spots in Spain for observation. At points such as El Alto de San Vicente, between Briones and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the total eclipse will reach its peak around 8:28 PM, with the Moon covering 103.3% of the solar disc for 1 minute and 21 seconds. Three wineries in La Rioja have prepared proposals with prices between €65 and €140 per person.

In Samaniego, one of the best-positioned municipalities in the whole area, the phenomenon will last more than a minute, with the solar corona visible to the naked eye. Two wineries have organized events priced at €50 and €100 per person.
